During Byzantine times chapels and monasteries were hollowed out of the rock, the frescoes reflects the hues of the surrounding landscape. Even today troglodyte dwellings in rock cones and village houses of volcanic tufa merge harmoniously into the landscape.
In the morning meet our Guide & Driver; Travel across the central Anatolian plateau to Cappadocia, a landscape of unique rock formations and ‘Fairy Chimneys’. Beginning in primitive times, early Christians carved elaborate frescoed churches and underground dwellings out of the porous rock. En route a brief stop to visit the famous Agzikarahan caravanserai. After lunch visit the historic castle of Uchisar, explore the 12th century frescoed churches, monastery complexes and rock-hewn churches in the Goreme Open Air museum, the church of St. Joseph, St. John and St. Theodore; visit the majestic fairy-chimneys of Pasabag followed by a gentle stroll among the naturally sculptured rock shapes of Devrent Valley. Visit Avanos the traditional rock-carved village of the pottery artisans; visit the multilevel underground city of Ozkonak. Followed by a brief stop at Hacibektas: a clean and pleasant town on the northwestern outskirts of the Cappadocian region: birthplace of the spiritual leader “Hacibektas Veli”.
