Hierapolis (Ancient Greek:”Holy City”)The hot springs have been used as a spa since the 2nd century BC, with many patrons retiring or dying there. The large necropolis is filled with sarcophagi, most famously that of Marcus Aurelius Ammianos. Hierapolis-Pamukkale was made a World Heritage Site in 1988.
Pamukkale, meaning “cotton castle” in Turkish, is a natural site in Denizli Province in southwestern Turkey. The city contains hot springs and travertines, terraces of carbonate minerals left by the flowing water. It is located in Turkey’s Inner Aegean region, in the River Menderes valley, which has a temperate climate for most of the year.

Itinerary
Leave the Aegean shore to visit to the ancient city of Hierapolis scattered around the natural beauty of Pamukkale or ‘Cotton Castle’ where the white limestone cliffs have attracted visitors since before the time of Christ. Walk barefoot through the gleaming white cliffs, bathe in Cleopatra’s hot spring poll and swim over ancient ruins. (L)
